Martial art generally involves self defence. It is an art or movement that connotes beauty (for aesthetics)
The martial arts are codified systems and traditions of combat practices. They are practiced for a variety of reasons, including self-defence, competition, physical health and fitness, as well as mental, physical, and spiritual development.
BRIEF HISTORY ON MARTIAL ARTS
·        Was introduced in South East Asia
·        By an Indian Buddhist monk
·        Around 200 B.C
·        During the reign of the Ming dynasty
·        It involves meditation (relaxing and closing your eyes to uplift spirit)
·        The Buddhist discovered that students sleep during meditation.
·        He then introduced kung-fu
·        It involves the behaviour of 5 animals ( Tiger, Crane, Leopard, Snake, and Dragon...eagle)
·        Known as shaolin-kung-fu
·        Other martial arts involves wu-shu, tai-chi, karate(empty hand), taekwondo, e.t.c
ETHICAL BEHAVIOURS IN MARTIAL ART
·        It means the gentle man’s behaviour.
·        Hardly would any one provoke you to fight to wound or kill using martial art except your life is in danger. (Remember martial art is for self defence)
·        Assault liability might occur for breaching such rule.
INTRODUCING MARTIAL ART IN SCHOOLS
1.     Prepare a lesson note.
2.     Start with basic movement in martial arts.
3.     Teach defence before attack.
4.     Let them know they shouldn’t fight in public
5.     One should be familiar with martial art injuries
6.     Martial arts should be used for aesthetics.
7.     Understand the duration of play ( not more than 30 minutes)
8.     It is done bear footed with no attachment on body like rings, chains, e.t.c

HOW CAN MARTIAL ARTS INJURIES BE PREVENTED?
  1. Have a pre-participation physical exam and clearance evaluation before participating.
  2. When initially selecting the martial art you plan to participate in, learn the inherent risks with each style of martial art before selecting the one to pursue.
  3. Always train and practice your martial art under direct supervision from an experienced teacher.
  4. Perform proper warm-up and cool-down routines.
  5. Wear appropriate protective equipment in your style of martial art, i.e., gloves, mouth guard, headgear, chest protector, padding, and/or bracing.
  6. Speak with a sports medicine professional or athletic trainer if you have any concerns about injuries or strategies for preventing injuries.
TERMS IN MARTIAL ART
1.     WIPER MOVMENT: An across the face movement to essentially protect the face
2.     ASTRIDE POSITION: A position used for balancing usually with knees slightly bent and with legs at shoulder width apart
3.     TARGETS: Getting the point directly without missing it.
4.     BLACK BELT: An honour given to a martial artist for an excellent level of martial art.
